Sculptures in Fabric
Roberto Capucci, considered a "boy wonder" when he made his début as a high fashion designer in Rome in the late nineteen fiftees, has always marched to a different drummer. His career has been distinguished, and there have been a number of exhibits of his clothes, the most recent being at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. The same show appeared previously at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, The Münchnerstadt Museum of Munich, the Museum of Vienna, and the Palais de la Monnaie of Paris.
These incredibly inventive creations should be regarded as fabric sculptures, with forms and colours that sometimes follow the body and sometimes exasperate it. They may seem to be just that, only static objects, but many of these garments have been worn to important events where they have given a magical aura to the woman who has worn them.
