Caprese Salad (Mozzarella and Tomatoes)

Insalata Caprese is a traditional dish from the Campania region of Italy.

Ingredients:

  • Tomatoes
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Lemon juice or vinegar
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation:

Take some ripe red tomatoes and slice them thinly. Slice the same amount of mozzarella, if possible about the same circumference as the tomatoes. Arrange them on a plate, alternating the tomato with the mozarella, and decorate with at least one leaf of basil per couple. Season with olive oil, salt, freshly-ground pepper and with a spoonful of lemon juice or vinegar.
